Warhammer 40K: Space Wolves Combat Patrol, Codex and new models announced

Games Workshop Community announced some good news about my Space Wolves, as well as some new releases of models that will now be sold in their own boxes rather than just the starter sets.

I have been holding off buying anything new for my new army until the new codex is released as I don't want to buy anything until I check out all the changes that may have occurred.

Below is an excerpt from the Warhammer Community article which you can see by following the link here:
_________________________________________________

The fierce warriors of Fenris will also receive a new codex supplement. Along with the sagas of the legendary Chapter, Codex Supplement: Space Wolves includes datasheets for fielding their many unique units in games and specific Crusade rules. If you want to unleash the most savage Chapter of Space Marines upon the 41st Millennium, you’ll need this mighty tome. It’s available in an incredible collector’s edition as well as a standard hardback.

The Space Wolves get their own datacards, allowing you easy reference to your Chapter-specific Stratagems and psychic powers. There are also some new Space Wolves dice – so much easier than having to carve your own from krakenbone.

Codex Supplement: Space Wolves includes the rules for a brand-new unit, the Hounds of Morkai, who are also getting a multipart plastic kit. This is a dedicated psyker-hunting pack equipped with runic totems to protect them from evil magicks before they close in and slay the witch.

A Combat Patrol box for the Space Wolves is the ideal start to a Great Company or a way to add to an existing one. Packed with a choice selection of units, this box will get your army writing their own sagas in next to no time.

Two of the 41st Millennium’s greatest heroes are getting released next week too. Initially seen in the Prophecy of the Wolf boxed set, Ragnar Blackmane and Ghazghkull Thraka (along with his pet grot Makari) will be available individually for the first time. They are both incredible in battle, and the amazing models will delight collectors and painters alike. Whether you want to lead the noble Space Wolves or command the largest Waaagh! the galaxy has ever seen, you’ll want to grab these miniatures.

A lot of cool new releases to look forward to, not sure I will be able to afford to pre-order much right off the bat but look forward to getting everything here some point in the near future.  Maybe I'll get lucky and Santa will bring me some.

Until next time, stay safe, and I'll catch ya next time.

Warhammer 40K: Starting a new Army for the new edition - Space Wolves

With the new 9th edition for Warhammer 40K, I decided it was time that I started a new army.  I know that I have been working on resurrecting an old 6th/7th edition version of Raven Guard into the modern version of the game, and at the same time I have also been building up my Death Guard army into a competitive army, but something was still missing.

As I kept working on the Raven Guard, I just could not see myself playing them on a regular basis.  Let alone even contemplating them as an army I would ever take to a tournament/event.  So I decided to do some research, and after reading more and more about the Space Wolves, I knew then, that they would be my next main army.

For Warhammer 40K, I wanted several armies on different sides of the playing field, so to say.  For the Imperium/Space Marines, that army will be Space Wolves.  For Chaos, I have my Death Guard, and I so enjoy painting and playing with that army.  Now for Xenos, I have not made up my mind yet.  I do have something like 8000 plus points of Orks in storage, but I do not see myself resurrecting that army.  As I started that army a long time ago, and have models from 2nd Edition on.  But when I make up my mind on a Xenos army, expect an article about that in the future,  For now, Its Death Guard and Space Wolves.

A while back, when I posted about receiving my AdeptiCon T-Shirt in the mail, in that same post, I have mentioned that AdeptiCon and Games Workshop would be sending out merchandise/Promos from what was supposed to be the Warhammer Preview event there at AdeptiCon.  Since I was one of the lucky ones that had tickets for that preview, they sent out the Merchandise/Promos to everyone that was signed up for the event.  Anyway, to make a long story short, below is what I received in that package.
  • Model Box
    • Included - 1 Space Marine Assault Intercessor and 1 Necron Warrior.
  • 2 Books
    • 40K - Psychic Awakening - The Collected Fiction
    • AOS - Malign Portents - The Collected Fiction
  • Some Beastgrave Cards
  • A Warhammer tote bag
I still have assembled the Necron Warrior, but have not painted him as of yet.  But I did assemble and paint the Space Marine Assault Intercessor.  And as I was getting motivated and psyched to start my Space Wolves army, I decided to use that model to do a paint test for the armies paint scheme.

Here is the completed model:

I really do like how he turned out, and the picture does not look as good as what the model looks like in person.  My camera still sucks, and one day I will get a replacement for a nice DSLR or better camera for my hobby.  And BTW, it would make a great X-Mas or Birthday present if anyone wants to get me one.

In case you wanted to see, here is the built Necron Warrior:

As I said earlier, I do not plan on painting this model, maybe one day.  Who knows, maybe Necrons will be my Xenos army.  Although Tau and Tyranids are looking better then they are.

Until next time, stay safe in these crazy times, wear your mask, and be careful.

Warhammer 40K: Core Rule Book (And so it begins) New Edition

It's not new to everyone that Games Workshop announced the new edition to Warhammer 40K, but it has been covered so much, everywhere I did not feel like posting a bunch of repeat stuff here on my blog.

But, now that I have taken the first steps into the new edition, its time for me to start posting about what changes I will be making for this game, armies I play, etc.

The first step, of course, is to jump in a get the new rules.
Now that I have the book in hand, and perused the pages a bit, I have to admit, I am overly impressed with the quality and content of this new Rulebook.  I feel they have outdone themselves on this one.  I am now looking forward to seeing the new codexes, as from hearing them talk about them, sounds like they will be the same quality as the core book, at least I hope they will be.

Other changes will be coming with the new edition with me playing Warhammer 40K.  I feel my main army will be Deah Guard, and as far as my Raven Guard, they are on hold for the moment to see what the future unfolds for them.  Depending on some things, you may be seeing a new 40K army for me in the near future, and you will hear me bark and growl about it in an upcoming post.

Until next time, try to stay safe.  It's still a little crazy out there with the COVID thing, so be safe, game safe, and may your dice be blessed (unless you are playing me).

Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game - Witch King of Angmar on Fell Beast

Finished another model for my Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game, the Witch King of Angmar on Fell Beast.  This is a huge model and was very fun to paint.

Here is the description from the Games Workshop site:
The Witch-King of Angmar on Fell Beast: the greatest of the Nazgûl, and Sauron’s most deadly lieutenant, the Witch-King of Angmar carries a sword, wears the Crown of Morgul and attacks with the Fell Beast’s teeth and claws.
Below are the images of the Witch King:

Here are the stats from the rulebook for the Witch King:

Here are the stats for the Fell Beast:

Look forward to getting him on the battlefield, but also need a version of him mounted on a horse and on foot.

Until next time, be safe and try to always have fun.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Poxwalkers

Next up on the painting table is my Death Guard Poxwalkers.  They were really fun to paint, there is a huge variety of sculpts with these models.  The ones I am painting now, are the 20 that came in the Dark Imperium starter box.  There is 10 unique sculpts with this set that comes from that starter box.  The ones that come in the Easy To Build: Death Guard Poxwalkers set, are another 6 more unique sculpts, I look forward to adding those to my collection soon.  This makes 16 unique sculpts for this horde unit, I don't know about any of you, but this makes me happy.  Not many units in this game get that many unique sculpts, and make them look awesome on the tabletop.

Depending on how the new 9th edition to the game goes, I may eventually be fielding 2-3 full 20 man units of these.  But we will see what the future brings.

Here is the description from the GW website:
Shambling across the battlefield in reeking hordes, Poxwalkers engulf their enemies in rotting tides of grasping hands, gnashing teeth and squirming tentacles. They are the cursed victims of Nurgle’s plagues, transformed into unliving weapons by the cruel masters of the Death Guard. ... Each is uniquely unpleasant, armed with hastily improvised close combat weapons – blunt objects feature heavily, with hammers, chains, planks of wood and metal pipes with nails in represented. The Poxwalkers themselves are ghastly, their pallid faces twisted into sneering grimaces, mutations, boils and gashes covering their spindly limbs.
Below is the current datasheet:

Here is the first 10 of my Poxwalkers complete.  Painting the next 10 should be just as fun, and I look forward to adding the other sculpts soon.  The next 10, I do plan on painting different than these, that way, even if they are the same sculpt on the tabletop, they will each be unique in their own colors, etc.

I am not sure what will be next on the painting table, that list is, unfortunately, huge at the moment, and growing with each new purchase, lol.  And with 9th Edition of 40K coming out, and all the new cool stuff being released, I feel my list will be growing a lot over the next several months.

Until next time, have fun and stay safe.

AdeptiCon: Received my 2020 T-Shirt

Yesterday I received a surprise package in the mail and got the 2020 AdeptiCon T-Shirt that I had ordered.  I was disappointed, just like the rest of you when AdeptiCon was canceled, but I still wanted something from the event.  So I donated my money from my ticket/event purchases back to them but kept the order of my T-Shirt.

I knew they were mailing out the merchandise orders soon and was pleasantly surprised when I got it in the mail yesterday.

Another great email that I received from AdeptiCon was that since I had tickets for the Warhammer Preview event, Games Workshop decided that they would mail out everything they would have given to people at the event.  So in a week or two, I should be getting another happy surprise in the mail and hopefully, it will be something great.  I'm wishing that it will be the new Indomitus box and other miniatures that they previewed at the event, but I will have to wait and see.

Here is a few pictures I snapped of the shirt:

It is pretty good quality, and I love the design.  I will be proudly wearing my shirt at next years AdeptiCon event.

When I get the package from AdeptiCon/GamesWorkshop I will be making a blog post on everything that I receive.  Until next time, stay safe and wear a mask, please.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Lord of Contagion

Next up on the painting block for my Deth Guard is one of the HQ choices, the Lord of Contagion.  This was another model from the starter set, and like most of the other models from this set, one model that does not disappoint on the amount of detail it has.  I wanted the overall look of my army to be that same dirty/grunge look, so I painted him darker than I have seen others pant the Death Guard.

It was a lot of fun to paint and model.  And overall I am happy with how he turned out.  The Lord of Contagion will make a great addition to the tabletop and should cause lots of havoc in the game.

Description of them from the book:
The most aggressive and belligerent Lords of the Death Guard take up the mantle of Contagion.  Lords of Contagion lumber into battle in filth-smeared Cataphractii Terminator armour, wielding either snarl-toothed axes taller than a man or two-handed scythes that sweep aside the foe.  They tend towards direct strategies with little in the way of cunning or subtlety, and are pugnacious commander, supremely confident in their followers' ability to absorb the worst the enemy can throw at them and still prevail.  They embody the swift-spreading plague that tears through a crowd, killing indiscriminately and leaving mounds of bodies in its wake.
Here is the Lord of Contagion datasheet:

Below is my Lord of Contagion:

Overall I am really happy with how he turned out, and with the new 9th Edition of Warhammer 40K coming out, I feel he will be fun to play on the tabletop.

Until next time, try to have fun, and remember its just a game.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Plagueburst Crawler

Continuing on with my Warhammer 40K Death Guard Army, I decided to finish one of my Plagueburst Crawlers.  Eventually, I will be fielding up to three of these at a time, but I still need to purchase two more when my budget allows.

These function in multiple roles, you can play them holding back on the backlines, lobbing death with the plagueburst mortar.  Another way of using these is with their higher move of 9", they are pretty mobile, and you can use them a tough wall as they spew fuming death with their side sponson mounted plaguespitters.  Depending on what the new 9th edition of the Warhammer 40K game brings, the use of these may change, so we will see how that goes when they finally drop the new version of the game.

As far as building and painting, this kit was really nice to build and the painting was fun aw well.  I look forward to seeing how these do on the battlefield, as this army seems like it would be a blast to play.

Here is the official description from the Games Workshop website store:
Plagueburst Crawlers are lumbering, formidable siege tanks whose huge ram-blades, thick armour plating and daemonic energies provide them with incredible resilience. Their fearsome plagueburst mortars boast a parabolic fire arc and terrifying range, while the shells they fire combine high-radius explosives with lethal clouds of corrosive spores to inflict damage comparable to that of Imperial Demolisher cannon. The remainder of the Crawler’s weaponry is intended to slaughter the foe up close, spraying diseased slime and hails of vital shells at any who approach.
This multi-part plastic kit contains the components necessary to assemble a Plagueburst Crawler. An extremely front-heavy tracked dozer brimming with horrible weaponry, it is covered in thick armour pitted and rusting with corrosion and decay. A standout feature is the huge, spiked dozer blade, with a symbol of Nurgle proudly displayed, picked out in skulls. It bears 2 plaguespitters on the sponsons, which you can replace with the 2 included entropy cannon, and the heavy slugger at the front-centre can be replaced with a rothail volley gun – each option is equally potent, but the biggest worry to the enemy is undoubtedly the plagueburst mortar, whose targeting mechanisms and enormous barrel dominate the rear of the vehicle.
Here are the images I took of my first finished Plagueburst Crawler:

Below is the Datasheet for the Plagueburst Crawler.

Warhammer 40K: Raven Guard Inceptor Squad

I'm slowly continuing to paint up all my Raven Guard, and the latest unit to be completed from the "Dark Imperium" starter set is the Inceptor Squad.  When it comes to painting and modeling, I'm super slow, as you can tell from my blog posts, and since I play a good variety of different games, it seems to take me even longer to get one army completely done for a game.

The Inceptor Squad will definitely see battle time in my lists, and I plan on expanding the unit to its full size.  These were not too bad t assemble and paint, and the hardest problem I had was getting them onto the flight stands that GW provides.  The bottom line, they suck.  GW really missed the mark with this stands, and I'm highly disappointed in them.  Beyond that, I really like the models.

You can play this squad in several different ways, with their Meteoric descent rule, it makes the Inceptors very versatile.  You can use them as an Alpha strike on turn one to try to eliminate something.  Or you can use them as a backup as a defense to counter a deep-strike from the enemy.  There are probably other ways to use them if you have them use the Plasma Exterminators, you can try to punch through something with armour.

Here is my completed unit from the starter set:

Looking forward to using these guys on the battlefield.

Not sure what will be on the painting table next, but until next time, try to stay safe in these crazy times.

Warhammer 40K: Starting a new Death Guard army - Staying safe at home during the COVID-19 crisis

Since I am at home for a while with this COVID-19 Crisis going on, I have been trying to get caught up on some of my hobby painting.  I have also decided to start a new 40K army, and as you can tell from the logo above, that army will be Death Guard.  Since I already have a good start on the army, from buying the Dark Imperium starter, I got a good start on it.  If you remember from an earlier post, I purchased that starter box to get my Raven Guard updated for 8th Edition by getting in some Primaris added into the army.

From that box, I have the following for the Death Guard Army:

  • 1 Lord of Contagion
  • 1 Noxious Blightbringer
  • 1 Malignant Plaguecaster
  • 7 Plague Marines - Including a Plague Champion
  • 1 Foetid Bloat-Drone
  • 20 Poxwalkers

That's not a bad start.

Since that purchase, I have also purchased the following:

  • Death Guard Codex
  • Plagueburst Crawler
  • x2 Myphitic Blight-Hauler (3rd on order but delayed)
I'll be adding a 2nd Plagueburst Crawler soon, but beyond that, I have not made and specific choices as to what to add to the army.

I currently have everything built and now primed with Death Guard Green, and I already started painting the Myphitic Blight-Haulers.

Here is an image of everything together and primed, and as you can see one of the Myphitic Blight-Haulers is about 1/3rd of the way done.

Some of the models I left in a few pieces, as it will be easier for me to paint with them separate like that.

Over the next several weeks we will see how far I get on these.

Warhammer 40K: Ragnar Blackmane & Ghazghkull Thraka (Saga of the Beast)

The news dropped today about the next Psychic Awakening: Saga Of The Beast, and the two new anticipated models from that set, Ragnar Blackmane & Ghazghkull Thraka.

First up, and my absolute favorite, is Ghazghkull Thraka.  I have his original model, and I liked that one, but this one is perfect.  I can not wait until I can get ahold of this model and get it painted up.  I think with this release, I have officially announced that my Orks will come out of retirement.

Here is the image of the model release from the Warhammer Community website:

The next model that was also shown on the page was that of Ragnar Blackmane, this model is also impressive, but I am not sure I was to collect this army, so I will either trade/sell or convert these guys to something else.

Here is the image released for Ragnar:

I will do a post when they officially announce what will be included in the box set, but so far, its an auto-buy for me.

Until next time, may your dice roll great.

Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game - Additions to my collection

So, some last-minute arrivals to add to the collection for Middle-Earth SBG.  Added to the rule-books that I have.  I now have the "War in Rohan" book that just came out.  Model wise, my Dead of Dunharrow army got some additions with the "King of the Dead & Heralds", as well as "The Three Hunters" box sets.  Looking forward to building and painting all of these, as well as getting them on the table-top for some gameplay.

War In Rohan
Inside this book there is a ton of information:

– The History of Rohan.
– 24 narrative play Scenarios.
– The War in Rohan Campaign.
– Sieges: Brand-new rules for fighting sieges.
– Armies: Rohan, Lothlórien, Fangorn, Isengard, and Dunland
      - Includes new profiles for a range of Heroes.
– Legendary Legions: Nine stand-alone army lists.
– And a cool Miniatures showcase.

King of the Dead & Heralds
This box set contains the following:

– The King of the Dead - This is an awesome model, great sculpt.
– 2 Heralds - Both of which have a banner and greats sculpts as well.

This will be a great addition to my The Dead of Dunharrow army.  All three of these models can lead their own warbands, and I look forward to seeing how I can use them in my army lists.

The Three Hunters
During the Battle of Pelennor Fields, the three hunters arrived at the Docks of Harlond when things seemed darkest for the White City, leading the Army of the Dead – and with them came victory for the Men of the West.

This plastic kit contains the following:

– Aragorn
– Legolas
– and Gimli

I love all three of these sculpts, and feel they are the best of the three models made for these characters.  They will make a great edition for the themed army I want to make for Dead of Dunharrow (Army of the Dead).

So pumped to have all this added to my collection.  I'll do separate posts in the future when I build and paint them, and will do breakdowns for each.

Until next time........

Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game - Wild Wargs

After getting the Cave Troll completed, you can check out that post here, I decided I needed to get something a little faster into my army, as far as movement speed, etc.  After some thinking, I decided to go with a unit of Wild Wargs, and eventually the Wild Warg Chieftain to lead them.  These guys will not only bring speed but open up other avenues by having the ability to out-flank and get around the table much faster then my standard Goblins could.

Here is their description from the Games Workshop page, you can see then on their site here.
Ferocious wolf-like creatures that have found mutual cause with the vassals of the Dark Lord, Wargs are comparable in size to a horse and many times more dangerous than an ordinary wolf. Swift, agile and deadly, Wargs hunt in packs, usually led by a powerful Warg Chieftain. When the minions of the Dark Lord go to war, they often seek the assistance of such Warg packs, whose natural ferocity and speed makes them valuable additions to an army or warband.
Here is the Wild Wargs Stats:

I really enjoyed assembling them, and I feel they came together rather quickly and look better then I anticipated.  I did have to try to fill in some gaps, as you can see from the images below after assembly, there were some noticeable gaps, around the head area and near the rear and tail.  I do not have any green stuff and tried my best to hide the gaps, but not as well as I liked.

I really enjoyed painting these six Wargs, and trying not to have each one look identical to the next, I varied the paint scheme to several of them.  Two I base coated White and the other four I base coated Black, and I used several different shades of brown to help change the look of each one.

After painting, you can still see some of the gaps around the neck area, but other than that I feel they came out pretty good.  As a beginner painter/modeler, I feel that my abilities are slowly getting better.

These Wargs should be a blast when I get them on the table, and into the battle.  I look forward to seeing how well they do in the near future.

Until next time...
