Warhammer 40K: Space Wolves Combat Patrol, Codex and new models announced

Games Workshop Community announced some good news about my Space Wolves, as well as some new releases of models that will now be sold in their own boxes rather than just the starter sets.

I have been holding off buying anything new for my new army until the new codex is released as I don't want to buy anything until I check out all the changes that may have occurred.

Below is an excerpt from the Warhammer Community article which you can see by following the link here:

The fierce warriors of Fenris will also receive a new codex supplement. Along with the sagas of the legendary Chapter, Codex Supplement: Space Wolves includes datasheets for fielding their many unique units in games and specific Crusade rules. If you want to unleash the most savage Chapter of Space Marines upon the 41st Millennium, you’ll need this mighty tome. It’s available in an incredible collector’s edition as well as a standard hardback.

The Space Wolves get their own datacards, allowing you easy reference to your Chapter-specific Stratagems and psychic powers. There are also some new Space Wolves dice – so much easier than having to carve your own from krakenbone.

Codex Supplement: Space Wolves includes the rules for a brand-new unit, the Hounds of Morkai, who are also getting a multipart plastic kit. This is a dedicated psyker-hunting pack equipped with runic totems to protect them from evil magicks before they close in and slay the witch.

A Combat Patrol box for the Space Wolves is the ideal start to a Great Company or a way to add to an existing one. Packed with a choice selection of units, this box will get your army writing their own sagas in next to no time.

Two of the 41st Millennium’s greatest heroes are getting released next week too. Initially seen in the Prophecy of the Wolf boxed set, Ragnar Blackmane and Ghazghkull Thraka (along with his pet grot Makari) will be available individually for the first time. They are both incredible in battle, and the amazing models will delight collectors and painters alike. Whether you want to lead the noble Space Wolves or command the largest Waaagh! the galaxy has ever seen, you’ll want to grab these miniatures.

A lot of cool new releases to look forward to, not sure I will be able to afford to pre-order much right off the bat but look forward to getting everything here some point in the near future.  Maybe I'll get lucky and Santa will bring me some.

Until next time, stay safe, and I'll catch ya next time.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Troopers Unit

I have been continuing to work on my Star Wars Legion models, as I just cannot get into the mood right now to work on any of my other game systems right now.

I am working toward having two of my armies for the game completely painted, as my wife has expressed an interest in starting to play the game.  And I would like to have fully painted armies on the table for us to play together.

Since I will be playing my Separatist Alliance Army, we have decided that she will be playing the Rebel Alliance.  Currently, I have Luke from the first starter set already painted, you can see that post here.  I just finished the first of the Rebel Troopers and you can see them in the image below.

It took me a while to decide on a final color scheme, and I feel what I came up with works pretty well.  Below is a closeup of the Rebel Trooper Unit Leader.

These were fun to paint up, and looking forward to getting the other two units finished.  I also have the AT-RT to finish, but I already have the trooper for that unit completed, as I painted him at the same time as this unit.

Until next time, have fun and stay safe.

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Alliance starting the army

Over the past week and a half, I have not accomplished a whole lot when it comes to the hobby side of things.  And I had planned on getting a whole lot done when it comes to this game.

I wanted to paint up my third B1 Battle Droid squad, and also paint three squads of Rebel Alliance Troopers, and at least get a good start on the AT-RT for them as well.

But life gets in the way, as usual, but crap happens, lol.

But I did get some stuff accomplished as you can see from the picture below.

I have all three squads of Rebel Alliance Troopers assembled and the base covered in my ground material.  I also have the AT-RT assembles as well, and the same goes for its base.  Luke has been painted for a long time now, as is Darth Vader from the original starter box set.  I have not completed Luke's base yet, as I plan on passing them all together when I finish painting them.  The T-47 Air Speeder as you can see is still new in the box.  And I'm not entirely sure I will be finishing the Air Speeder as I am considering just making it a terrain piece, as I'm not convinced that it's a viable unit in the game at the moment.

So, I just wanted to do an update post, as to what is happening in my Hobby World and will try to get some of these painted this week.

So until next time, have fun with your hobby, smile, and enjoy life.

Star Wars Legion: General Grievous and Second B1 Battle Droids Unit

Continuing on with the Star Wars Legion builds, I finished off General Grievous and the second unit of my B1 Battle Droids.  Getting closer to my tournament-ready list of Separatist Alliance.

Grievous was fun to build, he comes with so many options.  You can build him in so many ways, as he comes with 4 arms.  I opted to go with just two arms, one holding his gun, and the other wielding a lightsaber.  You could do up to four arms, 1 gun, 3 lightsabers, or just 4 lightsabers. I the future I may purchase more models of him to do a 4 arm lightsaber version, but that may be a while as the only way you can purchase General Grievous is in the Clone Wars starter set. I may be able to find him on E-Bay, or someplace similar but we will see.

Below is my complete General Grievous:

And here is his stat card:

Here is the blurb about him from the Fantasy Flight Site:
Even when he isn’t in the thick of battle, General Grievous is a ruthless tactician whose army is his deadliest weapon. With the massive numbers of battle droids under his command, General Grievous is unafraid to use Aggressive Tactics to accomplish his objectives. When he does, he grants surge tokens to up to four units in addition to their faceup order tokens, better preparing them for the challenges of the battle ahead.

One of the primary advantages of a droid army is that its soldiers can easily be replaced. General Grievous takes advantage of this fact to the fullest, using his position as Supreme Commander of the Separatist army to have his army’s more expendable units absorb the fire directed at more valauble troops, including himself. At the same time, Grievous takes this opportunity to become even more versatile and ready himself to both defend or attack with even more surge tokens.
Finally, General Grievous doesn’t simply want to achieve his army’s goals; he wants to completely annihilate his enemies on the field. As such, he won’t hesitate to order his troops to crush his opponents,  even when his army already holds an advantage.
He will make a great asset to my Separatist Alliance army and should be a blast to play on the tabletop.  Eventually, I will be adding Count Dooku to the army, and expanding into different units, etc.

Here is a pic of everything I currently have painted up for the Separatist Alliance, I still have 1 B1 Battle Droids Squad to build and paint.

Next up for Star Wars Legion, I will be working on the Rebel Alliance, as I have already painted up Luke Skywalker, but still have 3 units of Rebel Troopers to paint up, as well as T-47 Airspeeder, and an AT-RT.  For the AT-RT I am not sure what armaments I am placing on it, still not sure which way to go with it.

Until next, time, happy gaming, and try to stay safe.

Star War Legion: B1 Battle Droids (Separatist Alliance)

It has been a while since I have worked on anything Star Wars related, so I decided today to break out one of the B1 Battle Droid units from the Second Star Wars Legion starter box.  It is high time I get the Separatist Alliance completed, as of so far, all I have completed is the Droidekas unit for this army from that box set.  You can see that post here.

One thing that I did learn from building these guys is patience and some new cuss words that I have not spoken out loud in a long while, lol.  I now feel the pain of building these guys, as I have seen from so many other posts of players building these units.  But once I go the hand of how fiddly these were, once I got four or so done, the rest of them went a little more smoothly.

Here is a picture of the finished unit:

At first, I was not sure of the color scheme, but in person and on the tabletop, they look very cool.  I know, hard to tell from my crappy picture.

Here is a look at their game card:

These guys will be fun to play on the tabletop, in small groups not that much to look at, but in large numbers, they can overwhelm the battlefield, and give havoc to the enemy with their sheer numbers.

I have one more unit to paint up of them, and then both squads from the starter box will be complete.  That will just leave General Grievous for the Separatist Alliance to complete.  With him, I plan on doing a small conversion, as I want to try to build him with all four lightsabers and his cloak.  I think he will look cool.  I may pick up another two models of him, just to build him in all his configurations, as I do not think that using magnets would work for this model.

Let me know what armies you are playing in Legion, or if you have suggestions on which units to get next for the Separatist Alliance.

Until next time, try to have fun and stay safe out there.

Warhammer 40K: Starting a new Army for the new edition - Space Wolves

With the new 9th edition for Warhammer 40K, I decided it was time that I started a new army.  I know that I have been working on resurrecting an old 6th/7th edition version of Raven Guard into the modern version of the game, and at the same time I have also been building up my Death Guard army into a competitive army, but something was still missing.

As I kept working on the Raven Guard, I just could not see myself playing them on a regular basis.  Let alone even contemplating them as an army I would ever take to a tournament/event.  So I decided to do some research, and after reading more and more about the Space Wolves, I knew then, that they would be my next main army.

For Warhammer 40K, I wanted several armies on different sides of the playing field, so to say.  For the Imperium/Space Marines, that army will be Space Wolves.  For Chaos, I have my Death Guard, and I so enjoy painting and playing with that army.  Now for Xenos, I have not made up my mind yet.  I do have something like 8000 plus points of Orks in storage, but I do not see myself resurrecting that army.  As I started that army a long time ago, and have models from 2nd Edition on.  But when I make up my mind on a Xenos army, expect an article about that in the future,  For now, Its Death Guard and Space Wolves.

A while back, when I posted about receiving my AdeptiCon T-Shirt in the mail, in that same post, I have mentioned that AdeptiCon and Games Workshop would be sending out merchandise/Promos from what was supposed to be the Warhammer Preview event there at AdeptiCon.  Since I was one of the lucky ones that had tickets for that preview, they sent out the Merchandise/Promos to everyone that was signed up for the event.  Anyway, to make a long story short, below is what I received in that package.
  • Model Box
    • Included - 1 Space Marine Assault Intercessor and 1 Necron Warrior.
  • 2 Books
    • 40K - Psychic Awakening - The Collected Fiction
    • AOS - Malign Portents - The Collected Fiction
  • Some Beastgrave Cards
  • A Warhammer tote bag
I still have assembled the Necron Warrior, but have not painted him as of yet.  But I did assemble and paint the Space Marine Assault Intercessor.  And as I was getting motivated and psyched to start my Space Wolves army, I decided to use that model to do a paint test for the armies paint scheme.

Here is the completed model:

I really do like how he turned out, and the picture does not look as good as what the model looks like in person.  My camera still sucks, and one day I will get a replacement for a nice DSLR or better camera for my hobby.  And BTW, it would make a great X-Mas or Birthday present if anyone wants to get me one.

In case you wanted to see, here is the built Necron Warrior:

As I said earlier, I do not plan on painting this model, maybe one day.  Who knows, maybe Necrons will be my Xenos army.  Although Tau and Tyranids are looking better then they are.

Until next time, stay safe in these crazy times, wear your mask, and be careful.

Warhammer 40K: Core Rule Book (And so it begins) New Edition

It's not new to everyone that Games Workshop announced the new edition to Warhammer 40K, but it has been covered so much, everywhere I did not feel like posting a bunch of repeat stuff here on my blog.

But, now that I have taken the first steps into the new edition, its time for me to start posting about what changes I will be making for this game, armies I play, etc.

The first step, of course, is to jump in a get the new rules.
Now that I have the book in hand, and perused the pages a bit, I have to admit, I am overly impressed with the quality and content of this new Rulebook.  I feel they have outdone themselves on this one.  I am now looking forward to seeing the new codexes, as from hearing them talk about them, sounds like they will be the same quality as the core book, at least I hope they will be.

Other changes will be coming with the new edition with me playing Warhammer 40K.  I feel my main army will be Deah Guard, and as far as my Raven Guard, they are on hold for the moment to see what the future unfolds for them.  Depending on some things, you may be seeing a new 40K army for me in the near future, and you will hear me bark and growl about it in an upcoming post.

Until next time, try to stay safe.  It's still a little crazy out there with the COVID thing, so be safe, game safe, and may your dice be blessed (unless you are playing me).

Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game - Witch King of Angmar on Fell Beast

Finished another model for my Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game, the Witch King of Angmar on Fell Beast.  This is a huge model and was very fun to paint.

Here is the description from the Games Workshop site:
The Witch-King of Angmar on Fell Beast: the greatest of the Nazgûl, and Sauron’s most deadly lieutenant, the Witch-King of Angmar carries a sword, wears the Crown of Morgul and attacks with the Fell Beast’s teeth and claws.
Below are the images of the Witch King:

Here are the stats from the rulebook for the Witch King:

Here are the stats for the Fell Beast:

Look forward to getting him on the battlefield, but also need a version of him mounted on a horse and on foot.

Until next time, be safe and try to always have fun.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Poxwalkers

Next up on the painting table is my Death Guard Poxwalkers.  They were really fun to paint, there is a huge variety of sculpts with these models.  The ones I am painting now, are the 20 that came in the Dark Imperium starter box.  There is 10 unique sculpts with this set that comes from that starter box.  The ones that come in the Easy To Build: Death Guard Poxwalkers set, are another 6 more unique sculpts, I look forward to adding those to my collection soon.  This makes 16 unique sculpts for this horde unit, I don't know about any of you, but this makes me happy.  Not many units in this game get that many unique sculpts, and make them look awesome on the tabletop.

Depending on how the new 9th edition to the game goes, I may eventually be fielding 2-3 full 20 man units of these.  But we will see what the future brings.

Here is the description from the GW website:
Shambling across the battlefield in reeking hordes, Poxwalkers engulf their enemies in rotting tides of grasping hands, gnashing teeth and squirming tentacles. They are the cursed victims of Nurgle’s plagues, transformed into unliving weapons by the cruel masters of the Death Guard. ... Each is uniquely unpleasant, armed with hastily improvised close combat weapons – blunt objects feature heavily, with hammers, chains, planks of wood and metal pipes with nails in represented. The Poxwalkers themselves are ghastly, their pallid faces twisted into sneering grimaces, mutations, boils and gashes covering their spindly limbs.
Below is the current datasheet:

Here is the first 10 of my Poxwalkers complete.  Painting the next 10 should be just as fun, and I look forward to adding the other sculpts soon.  The next 10, I do plan on painting different than these, that way, even if they are the same sculpt on the tabletop, they will each be unique in their own colors, etc.

I am not sure what will be next on the painting table, that list is, unfortunately, huge at the moment, and growing with each new purchase, lol.  And with 9th Edition of 40K coming out, and all the new cool stuff being released, I feel my list will be growing a lot over the next several months.

Until next time, have fun and stay safe.

AdeptiCon: Received my 2020 T-Shirt

Yesterday I received a surprise package in the mail and got the 2020 AdeptiCon T-Shirt that I had ordered.  I was disappointed, just like the rest of you when AdeptiCon was canceled, but I still wanted something from the event.  So I donated my money from my ticket/event purchases back to them but kept the order of my T-Shirt.

I knew they were mailing out the merchandise orders soon and was pleasantly surprised when I got it in the mail yesterday.

Another great email that I received from AdeptiCon was that since I had tickets for the Warhammer Preview event, Games Workshop decided that they would mail out everything they would have given to people at the event.  So in a week or two, I should be getting another happy surprise in the mail and hopefully, it will be something great.  I'm wishing that it will be the new Indomitus box and other miniatures that they previewed at the event, but I will have to wait and see.

Here is a few pictures I snapped of the shirt:

It is pretty good quality, and I love the design.  I will be proudly wearing my shirt at next years AdeptiCon event.

When I get the package from AdeptiCon/GamesWorkshop I will be making a blog post on everything that I receive.  Until next time, stay safe and wear a mask, please.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Lord of Contagion

Next up on the painting block for my Deth Guard is one of the HQ choices, the Lord of Contagion.  This was another model from the starter set, and like most of the other models from this set, one model that does not disappoint on the amount of detail it has.  I wanted the overall look of my army to be that same dirty/grunge look, so I painted him darker than I have seen others pant the Death Guard.

It was a lot of fun to paint and model.  And overall I am happy with how he turned out.  The Lord of Contagion will make a great addition to the tabletop and should cause lots of havoc in the game.

Description of them from the book:
The most aggressive and belligerent Lords of the Death Guard take up the mantle of Contagion.  Lords of Contagion lumber into battle in filth-smeared Cataphractii Terminator armour, wielding either snarl-toothed axes taller than a man or two-handed scythes that sweep aside the foe.  They tend towards direct strategies with little in the way of cunning or subtlety, and are pugnacious commander, supremely confident in their followers' ability to absorb the worst the enemy can throw at them and still prevail.  They embody the swift-spreading plague that tears through a crowd, killing indiscriminately and leaving mounds of bodies in its wake.
Here is the Lord of Contagion datasheet:

Below is my Lord of Contagion:

Overall I am really happy with how he turned out, and with the new 9th Edition of Warhammer 40K coming out, I feel he will be fun to play on the tabletop.

Until next time, try to have fun, and remember its just a game.

Warhammer 40K: Death Guard - Plagueburst Crawler

Continuing on with my Warhammer 40K Death Guard Army, I decided to finish one of my Plagueburst Crawlers.  Eventually, I will be fielding up to three of these at a time, but I still need to purchase two more when my budget allows.

These function in multiple roles, you can play them holding back on the backlines, lobbing death with the plagueburst mortar.  Another way of using these is with their higher move of 9", they are pretty mobile, and you can use them a tough wall as they spew fuming death with their side sponson mounted plaguespitters.  Depending on what the new 9th edition of the Warhammer 40K game brings, the use of these may change, so we will see how that goes when they finally drop the new version of the game.

As far as building and painting, this kit was really nice to build and the painting was fun aw well.  I look forward to seeing how these do on the battlefield, as this army seems like it would be a blast to play.

Here is the official description from the Games Workshop website store:
Plagueburst Crawlers are lumbering, formidable siege tanks whose huge ram-blades, thick armour plating and daemonic energies provide them with incredible resilience. Their fearsome plagueburst mortars boast a parabolic fire arc and terrifying range, while the shells they fire combine high-radius explosives with lethal clouds of corrosive spores to inflict damage comparable to that of Imperial Demolisher cannon. The remainder of the Crawler’s weaponry is intended to slaughter the foe up close, spraying diseased slime and hails of vital shells at any who approach.
This multi-part plastic kit contains the components necessary to assemble a Plagueburst Crawler. An extremely front-heavy tracked dozer brimming with horrible weaponry, it is covered in thick armour pitted and rusting with corrosion and decay. A standout feature is the huge, spiked dozer blade, with a symbol of Nurgle proudly displayed, picked out in skulls. It bears 2 plaguespitters on the sponsons, which you can replace with the 2 included entropy cannon, and the heavy slugger at the front-centre can be replaced with a rothail volley gun – each option is equally potent, but the biggest worry to the enemy is undoubtedly the plagueburst mortar, whose targeting mechanisms and enormous barrel dominate the rear of the vehicle.
Here are the images I took of my first finished Plagueburst Crawler:

Below is the Datasheet for the Plagueburst Crawler.

Star Wars Legion: Droidekas Unit

I completed my first unit for the Separatist Alliance, the Droidekas from the Clone Wars Core Set.  These were fun to build, but a little challenging as these models were on sprues, which is a first for Fantasy Flight Games.  The sprues themselves were not bad, and I do love that with being on sprues, it gives you a lot more choices when it comes to building your models.  That way, not every persons army looks the same because everyone has the same identical poses.

The set of Droidekas comes with two model poses.  The first being in the upright fighting stance, ready to open fire on your opponents.  And the second is the wheeled mode, ready to get across the battlefield quickly.  I have not tried these out in a game yet but I look forward to getting them out on the battlefield soon.  Below is the stat card for the Droideka Unit, the one on the left is the front of the card and the one on the right is the back of the card.

Here is the description from the Fantasy Flight Games website:
Versatile and extremely destructive, Droidekas are a threat to even veteran squads of clone troopers and skilled Jedi Knights—and when B1 Battle Droids fail, droidekas are often sent to execute their primary function: annihilation of their targets. Rolling swiftly into battle, droidekas unleash their arm-mounted twin blasters, pouring out withering torrents of fire.
The Droidekas Unit lets you support your droid forces with some of the most powerful combat droids in the galaxy. Four finely detailed, unpainted Droideka miniatures represent your Droidekas as they speed across the battlefield in wheel mode and unleash suppressive fire in their attack configuration.
Here is my painted miniatures:

I went for a darker look, and I feel they came out not that bad.  Still not sure about the bases yet, but for now they are tabletop ready for battle.

Until next time, get your hobby groove on, and as always stay safe in these crazy times.
