Unboxing: Hordes Legion of Everblight MK3 (MKIII) Battlegroup Starter Box

Hordes Legion of Everblight MK3 (MKIII) Battlegroup Starter Box
I have been waiting for this for awhile now, and so happy that I was finally able to get my hands on one.  To start of my new MK3 upgrade of my armies, I decided to start on the Hordes side and get the Legion of Everblight Battlegroup kit.  Ever since the announcement of the new edition I have been anxiously waiting to get my hands on the first kits.  Those that were lucky enough to attend this years Lock and Load were able to get the new sets before they are released June 29th.

So, lets rip open this box and take a look at what inside:

The contents of th box are as follows:

  • 5 Models - and thier cards
    • Warlock: Kryssa, Conviction of Everblight
    • Heavy Warbeast: Neraph
    • Light Warbeast: Nephilim Bolt Thrower
    • Light Warbeast: Shredders x2
  • Basic Training Tutorial Guide
  • Battle Play Map - 2-Sided
  • Introductory Guide
  • Hordes: Primal Rules Digest
    • Mini rulebook, has all the rule and none of the flush
  • 18" Flexible/Paper Ruler
  • 4 Six-Sided Dice
  • 15 Fury Tokens
  • 3 Spell Tokens
  • Obstacle Card - Fold up rock wall to use as terrain

I love the new colored plastics they are using for each army faction, nice to see some color on the table if you decide not to paint you models right away.  Makes it easier to tell the two forces apart that way when you are first starting out.

Below is a few more shots I took of the box contents.

Closer look are the card, tokens and colored plastic minatures.
Very nice of them to include the full rules with each starter set.
This is nice for new players, great step-by-step approach to learning the basics.
I will be of course doing a follow-up post when I have built the models, and then will go over a little about their stats, etc.

Until next time, keep on gaming and always have fun doing it.

Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Games Workshop game news and rumors

There has been some news and rumors floating around about Games Workshop releasing a new version of the Lord of the Rings (LoTR) / The Hobbit.  There is a YouTube channel and a Facebook page that have been talking a lot about this.

The YouTube channel is Spillforeningen the Fellowship they have been releasing videos about this for awhile now, also you can get great news about this game by going to this Facebook page: Great British Hobbit League.

Here is what is rumored to happen:

  • Sourcebooks are being re-printed
    • New Sourcebook available in October
  • Out of production models will be bought back by Forge World
  • Adam Troke will be working on the new books for (at least) four years
  • Same overall rules but a new rulebook will be released with tweaked mechanics
    • Name will change to Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game
  • Game might delve into the Lord of the Rings appendices for content in the future

I think this is great news as I love this franchise of games and love the movies.  Currently I have a Elves w/Legolas, and a whole hose of Goblins.

Really looking forward to this re-release and revamp of the game.

Beyond the Gates of Antares - The Battle for Xilos – The 1st Antares Game Supplement

The Battle for Xilos – The 1st Antares Game Supplement

This is cool, looking forward to the first game supplement for the Beyond the Gates of Antares game.  This supplement is a continuation of the events from the main rule book - triggered by the discovery of the planet Xilos.  This book contains a campaign system featuring a series of scenarios which cover all the stages of the battle over Xilos.

New Rules

The Battle for Xilos includes new content – including rules for including allies and mercenaries in your force as well as new army lists for the Ghar Outcast Rebels, and the mercenary forces of the Freeborn Adventurers and Boromite Clans, not to mention a host of special characters, new troop types, new weapons and vehicles, and some rather scary native creatures.

  • 6 New Scenarios.
  • Complete Campaign System, inclusive of force and character progression.
  • Rules on how to build your own characters.
  • New rules for incorporating allies either by combining forces or with mercenaries.
  • Xilos creature rules.
  • One Completely new Ghar Outcast Rebel Army.
  • Two new Mercenary army lists, The Freeborn Adventurers Army and the Boromite Clan Army.
  • Army list updates for Isorians and Algoyrn.
  • New Characters.
  • New troop types including Isorian Pulse Bikes, new Drone types, Ghar Outcast Support weapons and the Rebel Creeper…

‘The Battle for Xilos – The Builders Awake’ continues the narrative featured in the Xilos Horizon Starter set, and the launch is supported by a massive multi-player online campaign in conjunction with Beasts of War (link to their site).  And it looks like the online campaign will give you the chance to shape the history of the Antares universe.

This looks like it will be a very cool expansion to an already awesome game, I can't wait.

Until next time, always have fun, and always play more games!!!!
